Award-winning 'Avenue Q' production returns for encore

Award-winning 'Avenue Q' production returns for encore

ATLANTA -- It took home seven 2011 Suzi Bass Awards, not to mention tons of critical and audience acclaim.

Now, Horizon Theatre's lauded production of Avenue Q will return to the stage in January.

Avenue Q is "an explosion of upbeat energy, music and puppets for grownups," according to co-artistic/producing director Lisa Adler. "We're thrilled to be one of the first theatres in the country to produce the play regionally, bringing our own Horizon spin to it."

The production, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2004, follows the residents of Avenue Q, the only address you can afford when you're fresh out of college, out of a job or just trying to find your way in life. "Sesame Street"-like puppets, monsters, videos and songs tell a very adult story that tackles tough subjects like racism, unemployment, homosexuality, pornography, homelessness, lust and love.

In the Next Room is a provacative play that is billed as a "sex comedy with a head on its shoulders and a heart on its sleeve."  The play continues at The Horizon Theater until Saturday, November 19th. Guests can expect a special "Toy" party on the evening of the closing performance.

Return with us to the days of horses, buggies, corsets and bustles. In this age of electricity a handy new instrument to treat “hysteria” has Dr. Givings’ patients all aglow and his young wife very curious. Whatever is it? Contains adult themes. A 2010 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award nominee for best play.

7 Stages, partly inspired by Occupy Atlanta to make their shows more accessible to all

Atlanta - Early this morning Atlanta police cleared the Occupy Atlanta protesters from Woodruff Park.  Over 50 arrests were made and most will be able to make bail over the next day or so.  Many onlookers have struggled to find any good that has come out of the protesters and question whether they have any organization or any demands for that matter.  Here may be some good that came out of the protests....

In a recent press release 7 Stages says they are beginning a new program hoping to bring more young people into the arts.  The mission is to offer more accessibility for young people and newcomers to the arts in hopes that they enjoy their programming.
