Charis Books to hold March on Washington conversation

ATLANTA -- One week after the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, a Little Five Points bookstore will hold a conversation on the queer role in civil rights.

Charis Books & More's talk will be Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

For a $5 suggested donation, attendees can participate in Looking Back and Looking Ahead: A Queer Community Conversation on the Legacy of the March on Washington.

According to the bookstore:

This conversation will focus on the legacy of Bayard Rustin and his role in the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. We will also discuss the organizing that led to Audre Lorde speaking at the 1983 march commemoration and how the 1963 march has shaped and influenced contemporary LGBT activism. At the end of the community discussion, we will share ideas about how this history informs our present moment.
