'The Interview' plays to sold out crowds in Atlanta

ATLANTA – The much-discussed movie The Interview made its theater debut in front of sold out crowds in Atlanta on Thursday.

The Plaza Theater was one of the first theaters in the country to announce they'd show the movie, which had been pulled from thousands of theaters amid threats from hackers.

The comedy, which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, depicts an assassination attempt of North Korean leader Kim Jung Un.

All of Thursday's shows at the Plaza were sold out -- some 1,300 tickets sold. The theater owner said it was the biggest event in the theater's 75 year history.

Many theatergoers who lined up said their decision to see the movie was as much as a political statement as an entertainment choice.

Extra security guards were at the Plaza.

The movie is also available online.
