ATLANTA -- A woman and her pet rat are both safe after being rescued from a burning Atlanta house Monday morning.

A fire broke out at around 2:30 a.m. at the house in the 1000 block of Colquitt Avenue.

Responding crews found the woman on the home's top floor. Atlanta Fire spokeswoman Janet Ward said the heavy smoke may have prevented her from getting out of the house.

Both the woman and her pet were reportedly uninjured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
